Tips for a Successful Dance Season

A new dance year is full of excitement. As parents, there's a lot you can do behind the scenes to help your dancer have a smooth, stress-free season. Here are our top tips for starting the year off right.
LABEL EVERYTHING
Dance bags, shoes, water bottles, and even individual pieces of dancewear all tend to look alike once they're in a busy studio lobby. Take a few minutes at the start of the year to label your dancer's shoes and bags. It saves time, prevents mix-ups, and makes lost-and-found not build up.
STAY INFOMED
Studios have a lot of information, dates, and reminders throughout the year,. Make it a habit to read every message that comes through, even during busy weeks. Staying informed means fewer surprises and less scrambling at the last minute. At Dance-N-Groove, we email a monthly newsletter, keep our bulletin board and private Facebook group up to date. We also have a dedicated website for our annual show. If you ever have a question or concern, reach out directly to the studio by email. This keeps communication clear, gives the staff a record to reference, and ensures your question is answered with the correct information.
COME PREPARED
A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth class. Make sure your dancer has the correct attire and shoes for each class, packed and ready to go. Hair should be pulled back and secured before arriving, so it's out of your dancer's face and ready for movement. Please leave jewelry at home, it can be a safety hazard and we don’t want you to lose the, items. Have your dancer use the restroom before class begins, so class time isn't interrupted.
ARRIVE ON TIME
Plan to arrive a few minutes before class starts. This gives your dancer time to settle in, say hello to friends, and be ready to go the moment class begins, so instructors can start on schedule and make the most of every minute. Likewise, please plan on arriving to pick up your dancer 5 minutes before the end of class this will help the flow of traffic and our instructors to transition between classes with enough time.
COMMUNICATE INJURIES & ABSENSES
If your dancer is dealing with an injury, even a minor one, please email the studio ahead of time. This helps instructors modify choreography or activities as needed and keeps your dancer safe. The same goes for absences, a quick heads-up before class, rather than after, helps teachers plan rehearsals and choreography, especially as recital season approaches.
A TEAM EFFORT
A successful dance year isn't just about what happens in the studio, it's a partnership between dancers, parents, and teachers. A little preparation and communication from home makes a big difference in creating a positive, productive experience for everyone involved.
Here’s a wonderful year of dancing!
